摘要:Many traditional dances of a religious character are dedicated to certain devotions and concern local images of virgins and patron saints that are identified with their community. They are ritual, festive dances, generally serving as dominant symbolic elements, indispensable for the feast. The Dance of the Cascabeleros of Alosno is an extraordinary model of such a dance, the expression and interpretation of which is connected with the process of social identification. This dance establishes relations of afinity based on gender and on the common action of dancing by the community as a whole. The author draws from this case to argue for the importance of analyzing dances as a way of communicating messages about the collective imaginary as well as the social and cultural context in which they are performed.
