摘要：ResumenEste artículo es parte de un estudio que analiza la región Caribe a partirde la hipótesis de William Ogburn sobre el «retraso cultural».En él se describen las nuevas realidades y conceptos de región, el papelde la virtualidad en el desarrollo regional y el rol que juega el conocimientoen el futuro de la región Caribe.Posteriormente, basado en una taxonomía sociológica, el autor sustentael conflicto de la sociedad del Caribe, generado por los procesos de modernización y la persistencia en el mantenimiento de formas y esquemas mentales propios de la sociedad tradicional, y se destaca el déficit significativo en la inversión en desarrollo humano.AbstractThis article makes part of a study that analyses the Caribbean region fromthe hypothesis by Willian Ogburn about cultural underdevelopment. It describes the new realities and conceptions of region, the role of virtuality in the regional development and the role of knowledge in the future of the Caribbean region. Later, based on a sociological taxonomy, the author analyses the conflict of Caribbean society arising from the processes of modernization and the persistence of maintaining mental forms and schemata belonging to traditional society, and the significant deficit in the investment in human development is highlighted.
