摘要:I wrote this piece as inspired by true events from my life. This tells the story of an immigrant girl from a different race immigrating to, and trying to adjust to, a predominantly white society's standards. It shows her struggles with racially specific standards of beauty. Exposing young girls to unattainable standards of beauty is further aggravated when it intersections with race. It is society's, and in this case a predominantly white society's, inability to accept beauty in all forms which conditions young girls to hate themselves. This piece was written to shine a light on how race and gender intersect in this way which is harmful to young girls in a very problematic way.
