摘要:This text discusses generalist teachers practice regarding music education in the first years of school (primary school). The Brazilian educational system is presentd, followed by a brief review of literature on generalist teachers and music education. Between the years 1999 and 2007 the author of this text developed several pieces of research that are presented here. Each research discusses the music preparation of generalist teachers approching specific issues: 1) the first research, discusses the music preparation of generalist teachers in 19 Brazilian universities; 2) the second, presents the results of a music course offered to Bachelor of Education students; 3) the third research investigates generalist teachers in a Brazilian public school; 4) the fourth, is a continuation of the third research, in another period where music education was offered both to primary school children and generalist teachers. In a general sense, the music preparation of generalist teachers in universities has been insufficient or inadequate, but through continuing education projects is possible to observe positive outcomes for such a preparation. Public policies directed to this area could contribute to the music education in primary years in Brazil.
