  • 摘要:This article presents a case study conducted with adolescents, which focuses on the importance of music for a gender identity construction in the school environment. The methodology of investigation favored the interview techniques and the participative observation. Taking as a theoretical reference the authors who work from a relational perspective in the gender field, as well as in the school and musical education (Scott, 1995; Louro, 1999), the present study analyzes the construction of the gender identity revealed through musical preferences, as well as the symbolic meanings that students find on the media (Green, 1997; Valdivia/Bettivia, 1999). The data resulting from this research have shown that musical preferences of adolescents are active and dynamic and are related to the differences of socially built gender. Nowadays, when it comes to their role as subject builders, schools have still been trying to reinforce the generalized conceptions of boys and girls.
