摘要:One often forgets that music constitutes a phenomenon of sociability. Therefore, musical activities in a small working-class town near Lyon, France, emerge as a privileged space for the acting out of differences between social groups. A sociological analysis of the musical field at Villefranche-sur-Saône illustrates the functioning of this social principle at a local level. The social, geographical and cultural characteristics of a small town bring together activities and groups which otherwise tend to be set apart in the society as a whole. By a perverse effect, this proximity reinforces each individual’s desire to maintain distances among each other.
