In South America, with very few exceptions, the subject of transgenic food has barely been discussed in an open fashion regardless of the fact that it is a region that produces a great deal of goods for the agricultural industry. As a result, it should be acknowledged that one of the potential risks presented by biogenics can be blamed on the fact that there is very little information directed toward the consumer, and in extreme cases, it is actually hidden from consumers in Latin America. In its conclusion, this article lists the possible risks that transgenic foods present, while it also suggests the hypothesis for the short term that could constitute an opportunity for Latin America, if it chooses, to put products free of genetic intervention in its internal and external markets.
