  • 摘要:Gangetic plains of West Bengal, especially Malda, Murshidabad, Birbhum and Nadia are the traditional districts of West Bengal where more than 95% of the silk fiber of the state are produced commercially. But due to adverse climatic conditions in respect of silkworm rearing, which prevails almost throughout the year(except November to February )rearers are interested to rear comparatively safe race of silk worm, i.e. , the multivoltine silkworms(Nistari race),knowing the fact that the quality and quantity of silk yarn produced from the Nistari race are inferior than bivoltine silk. The south west monsoon has a great impact on the climate of the state and its intensity determines the prospects of sericulture to a considerable extent. As the multivoltine mother bears the dominant gene of disease resistance over bivoltine silkworms and the bivoltine father bears the dominant character of silk filament length over multivoltine, the hybrid of Nistari x (SK6XSK7) experimentally reared in three locations of Murshidabad district throughout the year (all the specified five commercial crops) as Murshidabad, a district of high potentiality in sericulture suffers from above variable climates. The result of the experiment proves that hybrid silkworm rearing always economically more viable than the rearing of multivoltine silkworm race.
