摘要:ABSTRACTKnowledge workers represent the most valuable, most mobile and most difficult to manage human resources. This Malaysian study follows previous work done in Singapore to elucidate the strategies used successfully or otherwise to attract, motivate and retain knowledge workers. Unlike much other research in this field, this work also compares and contrasts the knowledge workers management practices at two culturally similar countries but at different stages of development. It is found that there is convergence in methods used to motivate and retain knowledge workers but divergence in the preferred methods used to recruit knowledge workers. The most popular and the best strategies to manage knowledge workers are not only culturally sensitive but also dependent on the development stage of the country. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT The authors wish to convey special thanks to Professor Frank Horwitz of Cape Town University, South Africa, for permission to use the questionnaire created by his research group to conduct similar studies in Singapore and South Africa.
