El comportamiento de la relación entre estos dos agregados muestra como ésta, que en principio era positiva pasa a ser negativa, arrojando dudas sobre el posible efecto benéfico que el gasto público tiene sobre la actividad económica. Finalmente, se presenta una conclusión provocadora que cuestiona la eficiencia del gasto público en rubros que por definición tienen un efecto positivo poderoso sobre el crecimiento de la economía. Abstract: In this paper a brief reflection is posited on the decreasing trend of Colombian GDP growth rate while government expenditure (consumption and investment) as GDP ratio has been growing steadily. The behavior of the relationship between these two variables shows that at the beginning there was a positive effect and it changed to be negative, casting some doubts on the possible encouraging effect that public expenditure could have on the performance of the economic activity. Finally, a very disturbing conclusion questioning the efficiency of the public expenditure in items which are supposed to have powerful positive effect on economic growth is stated.
