La descripción de la coyuntura económica reciente no deja de sorprender puesto que, de un lado, se observa un mayor dinamismo de la activi- dad económica global y urbana y, de otro lado, un menor crecimiento del empleo. En consecuencia, la caída de la tasa de desem- pleo y del número de desempleados entre diciembre 2003 y diciembre de 2005 está en gran parte asociada con la drástica desaceleración de la oferta laboral, debido a razones que son diferentes en el caso de las principales áreas urbanas y en el resto del país. Se compara, así mismo, el com- portamiento del empleo y de los ingresos salariales reales de distintos grupos de tra- bajadores con la fuerte reducción de la pobreza en los últimos años, según cálcu- los del Departamento Nacional de Planeación (DNP), y se plantean algunos interrogantes. Abstract: This article presents a brief synthesis of the evolution of the labor market over the last few years. The description of the recent economic environment is surprising since, on the one hand, a major dynamism of the global and urban economic activity is observed and, and on the other hand, a minor growth of the employment also appears. As a consequence, the fal in the rate of unemployment and the number of unemployed between December of 2003 and December of 2005 is associated largely with the drastic deceleration of the labor offer, due to reasons that differ in the case of the principal urban areas from the rest of the country. Furthermore, there is a comparison between the behavior of the employment and the real wage income of different groups of workers with the strong reduction of the poverty in the last years, according to calculations of National Planning Department (DNP for its initials in Spanish), and some interrogations are presented.
