Entre los factores externos se tiene el mayor nivel de exportaciones hacia Estados Unidos, el alza en los precios internacionales de productos básicos como el petróleo y la mayor inversión extranjera directa en el país, factores que convirtieron al sector externo en motor de crecimiento en 2003. Igualmente, para 2004 se espera que este proceso de recuperación continúe, aunque muy ligado al desempeño económico mundial y específicamente de Estados Unidos. Abstract: The Colombian economic recovery that is observed since 2002 has been a result of internal and external factors. Some of the internal factors are the recovery of private investment and consumption, which were motivated by the trust in the actual, economical, political and security situation of the country, which has led to an important increase in the internal demand. Some of the external factors are the higher level of exportations to the United States, the rise in the international prices of basic products, like oil, and the increase in the direct foreign investment made to the country; these facts made the external sector, Colombian growth engine in 2003. Similarly, for 2004, is hoped to continue the recovery process, although, its very connected the world’s economic performance, specially to the United States recovery.
