摘要:In this paper, the effect of osteonal cortical bone microstructure upon microcrack propagation trajectory is investigated. A two-dimensional micromechanical fiber reinforced composite materials model for bovine osteonal cortical bone, using finite element method, is presented. Here, the interstitial tissue is modeled as a matrix and the osteon is modeled as a fiber. The interface between the osteons and interstitial tissue is also presented by cement line. Fracture test on compact tension (CT) samples of bovine femur is also performed. Micrographs of fracture surfaces are obtained using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). Results show that the crack propagation is greatly influenced by osteonal density.
