  • 摘要:In contemporary sport an increasing valueis being given to victory leading to a decrease in theimportance given to simple participation. Having thegoal of victory at all costs, many athletes are willing totrain and compete with pain and injury. Most of thestudies addressing the issue of pain and injury havefocused on the experiences and feelings of pain andinjury of male athletes; and on the pressures that actover these athletes, leading them to submit their bodiesto pain and injury. However, experiences of pain andinjury are no stranger to women athletes. This workhas as its main goal understanding the reasons whyfemale athletes, from different sports, accept andtolerate pain, and practice and compete while injured. It is also our purpose to inquire about the strategiesused to manage pain and / or injury. Data was collectedthrough seven semi-structured interviews withathletes from the following sports: swimming, volleyball, handball, judo, gymnastics, soccer and athletics. Thewomen involved in this study, aged between 18 and26 years old, were chosen because, at the time ofthis research, they were still in activity. The interviewswere thematically analysed. Our data showed thatduring the period in which athletes were injured theyfelt frustrated, scared and with no self-esteem. Hiding, omitting and forgetting the pain and injury were thestrategies mentioned by the athletes to manage painand injury. In this study, as in previous studies, weidentified and analyzed a culture of risk in elite sportthat tends to normalize pain and injury.
