摘要：Este artigo integra uma pesquisa mais abrangente e objetiva analisar os entendimentos de tempo livre de professores, profissionais e estudantes vinculados a cinco programas de mestrado em Lazer/Tempo Livre/Recreação desenvolvidos em quatro países latino-americanos: Brasil, Costa Rica, Equador e México. O texto busca, também, identificar e discutir os fundamentos utilizados pelos entrevistados para embasar seus entendimentos. A metodologia contempla uma pesquisa bibliográfica e entrevistas realizadas com 25 voluntários vinculados às cinco instituições estudadas. Os resultados evidenciaram que o chamado tempo livre, e também as compreensões de lazer e de recreação muitas vezes a ele associado, geralmente configuram-se como esferas contrárias ao trabalho. Embora não tenha sido unânime, prevaleceu a compreensão de tempo livre como aquele que resta após serem cumpridas as atividades profissionais, obrigações e outros compromissos, representando um tempo liberado para fazer o que se gosta e se deseja. Alguns entrevistados explicitaram sua opção por não utilizar o conceito de tempo livre, salientando as contradições que permeiam essa expressão.
其他摘要：This article is the result of a research and its goal is to analyze the understandings of free time for professors, professionals and students linked to five master's degrees in Leisure / Free Time / Recreation developed in four Latin American countries:Brazil,Costa Rica,EcuadorandMexico. The text seeks to identify and discuss the fundamentals used by respondents to support their understanding. The methodology includes a literature research and interviews with 25 volunteers linked to the five institutions studied. The results showed that free time, and the concepts of leisure and recreation usually appears as spheres contrary to the work. Although not unanimous, the prevailing understanding of free time as that which remains after the completion of the professional activities, obligations and other commitments, representing a released time to do what you like and want. Some respondents made explicit their choice not to use the concept of free time, highlighting the contradictions that permeate this expression.
