摘要:In this article are presented the analysis of IDS (Social-Economical Development Index) for the State of Santa Catarina, calculated in relation to its Brazilian neighbor States, to the years 1991 and 2000. Thus, the calculated IDS to these years makes more clear the impacts of economic changes occurred in the State of Santa Catarina along the nineties, depicting strong and weak points on its social-economical conditions. Calculated from economical (yield and income distribution) and social (health, education, labor, dwelling) indicators, the IDS shows remarkable improvements on economic and social aspects considered in a whole. This was regarded here to a remarkable change in production structure, occurred in Santa Catarina along the nineties. Notwithstanding, although formal unemployment rate has reduced, the level of informality at the labor market has kept quite high. It was also found harsh deficiencies related to dwelling, due to the persisting lack of sewerage systems, which caused significant impact on IDS, disclosing new urging priorities to policy makers to the next years.
