  • 摘要:Topical regimes have been used for umbilical cord care for different purposes, but their drying efficacy has rarely been analyzed. We designed an in vitro study using four regimes to determine which one can achieved the best drying effect on umbilical cord. Twenty five umbilical cords were resected when babies were born. Each cord was cut into four segments with weight of 7-8 grams and was sequentially labeled to four groups. Four regimes including guava decoction single strength, guava decoction strength, 70% Isopropyl Alcohol and water alone were used topically on four umbilical cords three times daily. Daily weight of the cords was recorded for three days before applying any regimen to each cord. Weight loss was significantly higher for the guava double strength group compared with water and guava single strength group; alcohol was better than guava single strength and water in drying the cord, while guava double strength and alcohol are at par in their drying ability. In day 3 same comparative trend of drying ability was also seen except that weight loss in the guava double strength group was now significantly higher than in the alcohol group, indicating better drying ability of guava strength compared with alcohol.Result of this study indicate that guava double strength is comparable to that of alcohol in terms of its drying effect.doi: 10.3860/eacrb.v5i1.515Emilio Aguinaldo College Research Bulletin Vol.5(1) 2006 p.14-19
