摘要：This works subject matter is the Portugueses colonial legislation to civilize Amazonian Indians in the eighteenth century The Diretório dos Índios. This paper focuses on Alexandre Rodrigues Ferreiras criticism about it, which allows an interpretation of the law as an effort to introduce a moral labor to the Amazonian (Indian and Portuguese) people.↓Este trabalho analisa a estratégia de civilização do elemento indígena consubstanciada no Diretório dos Índios legislação implementada na Amazônia no século XVIII, regularizando a liberdade concedida aos índios em 1755. Através das considerações de Alexandre Rodrigues Ferreira, naturalista luso-brasileiro em viagem pela Amazônia, propõe-se uma interpretação desse instrumento concebendo-o como uma tentativa de incutir nos elementos reunidos na região, naquele momento, uma moral baseado no trabalho.
