摘要:This study elucidates on the recent phenomena of Samal demographic distribution in the Philippines. By way of presenting ethnographic case studies of their migration patterns in multi-locale settings around the country, most predominantly around Mindanao, one comes to explicate the presence of the Samal in many of our urban areas. The Samal were mostly an exclusively fishing and boat building people, albeit nomadic, until several factors in their social life provided the impetus to their Philippine diaspora. It will be noted, however, that Samal diaspora is not a recent culture element. The Samal have long been migrating since before the Hispanic era. The study enables us to see into the origin and patterns of Samal migration, as these have been recorded in their oral traditions. In the end, it is important for us to understand the Samal as they come to populate our urban centers where they remain as social outcasts, even a pariah group to some.
