摘要：A proposta deste texto é analisar a produção historiográfica que trata do tema, relacionando-a a uma fonte muito importante para os estudos históricos e que foram fundamentais para construir estas novas propostas: a imprensa. A imprensa do Rio de Janeiro tornou-se um elemento de larga importância na divulgação sobre movimentos sociais, as transformações da cidade e as contradições do governo republicano. Neste texto pretende-se destacar questões que contextualizaram a chamada ”Revolta da Chibata” e como a historiografia contemporânea a discute.
其他摘要：The purpose of this text is to analyze the historiographical production that approaches the theme, relating it to a very important source for historical studies, which were essential to build these new proposals: the press. The press of Rio de Janeiro became an element of great importance in the disclosure of social movements, the transformations of the city and the contradictions of the republican government. This text aims to highlight issues that contextualize the so-called "Revolt of the Whip" and how contemporary historiography argues it.
