摘要：O estudo pretende descrever e analisar os fundamentos e as perspectivas atuais da pesquisa etnográfica na educação, tendo como fio condutor a relevância dos estudos sobre o cotidiano escolar. Ressaltamos o papel da pesquisa no processo educativo, enfatizando alguns aspectos da abordagem de pesquisa qualitativa, como delimitação do problema, hipóteses/pressupostos e relatando, nesta perspectiva, sobre a pesquisa etnográfica na educação: instrumentos, fundamentos, aplicabilidade e princípios, entretanto, observamos que, atualmente, são realizadas pesquisas do “tipo etnográficas”, utilizando-se dos mesmos instrumentos, mas com menor permanência do pesquisador no campo de pesquisa. Destacamos que, nessa vertente metodológica, são analisados o cotidiano escolar e a educação, concebidos enquanto processo social, cultural e histórico. PALAVRAS-CHAVE: Pesquisa qualitativa.
