摘要：A hipertensão arterial sistêmica é um problema de saúde pública com alta prevalência e associada a múltiplos fatores de risco. Um dos grandes desafios da saúde é a incorporação de estilo de vida e hábitos saudáveis para o combate à hipertensão. A prevenção por meio do processo educativo é parte integrante da promoção da saúde. O objetivo deste estudo é avaliar o nível de conhecimento sobre pressão arterial em escolares de ensino médio. Fizeram parte da amostra escolares do ensino médio do magistério. Aplicou-se um questionário sobre o conhecimento em hipertensão além de medidas antropométricas. A partir dos resultados, acredita-se na proposta de escola promotora de saúde por meio da educação para a saúde. Palavras-chave: Hipertensão. Escolares. Conhecimento. Promoção da saúde. Abstract Hypertension is a problem of public health associated to multiple risk factors. One of the challenges of health is the incorporation of life styleand healthy habits as non-pharmacologic measures for fighting against hypertension. Prevention by educative process aiming at clinic outcome is an integrant part of health promotion. There fore, the purpose of this articleis to evaluate the level of knowledge of high school students about arterial pressure. Students of the Teaching High School Course were constituents of the indication. A questionnaire was applied about the social economic situation and the knowledge in systemic arterial hypertension, beside santhropometric measures. The results have shown the validity of proposing a model of school that promotes health through health education. Keywords: Hypertension. Students. Knowledge. Health promotion.
