摘要：There are not many historical studies about the presence of the Portuguese in colonial Buenos Aires. This article intends to broach the topic of Portuguese commerce in that city through the 17th century, especially during the Spanish Domination and the Portuguese Restoration, in order to show the importance of the social nets constructed by the Portuguese together with the Spanish in La Plata. I will make use of concepts such as "extralegality" (fraud in port) and "selftransformation" to analyse political and economic behavior as strategies for "vecindad", that is, cultural assimilation for direct participation in local affairs.
