摘要：What future for this Europe? Dealing with the topic as an historian, the author goes back to the aims and principles which inspired the beginnings of the European construction towards an ethical perspective, to inquire if they are still active today and how they could work in the quite different conditions of the time being, when new forces are emerging. Subsequently she analyses the problems and ambitions facing the EU after its last enlargement, particularly the necessity to play its external role in all features, as a global as well as a regional actor. This crucial issue brings the author to explore the Russian enigma and finally to examine the transatlantic crisis, which an EU seeking for identity needs to solve. RÉSUMÉ - En tant qu’historienne, l’auteur regarde d’abord en arrière, vers les buts et les principes éthiques servant à fonder et à diriger la construction euro-péenne, pour réfléchir sur leur actualité dans les conditions très différentes du temps présent et sur leur efficacité face aux nouvelles forces qui façonnent le mon-de d’une manière rapide et inattendue. L’auteur analyse ensuite les problèmes et les ambitions de l’UE élargie à 25, en particulier par rapport au rôle d’acteur international au niveau soit régional soit mondial qu’elle est censée devoir finale-ment jouer. Ces questions entraînent le discours sur l’énigme russe et sur la crise des relations transatlantiques, que l’EU en quête de son identité doit résoudre.
