摘要：This article deals with a case of invention of traditions (Hobsbawn) in the Brazilian Army: the reform of the Military Academy by General José Pessoa in the early 30's. The new symbols then created (historical uniforms, coat of arms, sword etc.) try to establish a contitnuity with the past, in order to demonstrate the Army's stability and its role as a framework of nationality.
