摘要：Through the analysis of three key-situations in the political history of Rio de Janeiro ' its transformation in Federal District in the first years of Republican regime, the experience of autonomy in the first half of the 30's and its transformation in the state of Guanabara, implying a new definition of its political and institutional structure ' this article intends to discuss the constitutive elements and the dynamics of the town's political arena. After examining the legal documents that have created the institutional models mentioned above, we tried to follow the strategies adopted by the local political groups in these different situations in order to contribute to a reflection over the forming elements of the political culture of Rio de Janeiro.
