摘要:This article focuses on the main differences regarding the trajectories of Syrian and Lebanese immigrants in Brazil and the United States, between the last decades of the XIXth century and the 1930's. The examined issues include the selection of destinations among different social groups in the land of origin, the size of the contingents, their entry into the economic sphere, the difficulties in the new countries due to xenophobia and cultural prejudice, and the distinct socio-economic characteristics of the receiving societies. The conclusion sets out the main factors responsible for the differences, and argues that comparative approaches may be an important instrument for analyzing the history of immigration.
