摘要:American cities have historically grown together with public transportation. The development of the suburbs put an end to urban prosperity and imposed a pattern of private occupation of urban space and circulation by car. In this article, I try to follow this process and focus on the case of New York. Through historical and ethnographical research, I indicate how in New York another mode of occupying urban space and another relation with the city have evolved. After Félix Guattari's affirmations of a 'subjective fonction' of cities, I try to elucidate the situation of subjective processes in these urban configurations. Finally, I make a few indications for a comparative perspective with Brazilian cities, specially Rio de Janeiro.
