摘要:The paper examines the role of Brazilian Foreign Office (Itamaraty) in the circulation of ideas and in nation-building in Brazil through the study of Ronald de Carvalho's intellectual activity in this institution in the 20's and 30's. The hypothesis is that Brazilian Foregin Office constituted, at that time, an important social space within the bureaucratic structure of the State which could favor the transformation of ideas into socially shared attitudes. It is argued that Ronald de Carvalho's action in the institution contributed to the acceptance of an autoritarian ideology of State in Brazil.
