摘要：In 2008, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCCharlotte) joined in a community initiative with the UrbanMinistry Center to provide shelter to the homeless during thewinter months. A student organization was formed to sustainuniversity support. The author created a service-learning projectas part of a Citizenship and Service Practicum course. Threesemesters of end-of-course student evaluations indicate that theservice-learning experience had an impact on the students inthree ways. It raised awareness of homelessness; helped dispelnegative stereotypes and foster more positive attitudes; and promotedpositive civic attitudes and desire to “make a difference.”
