摘要：THE QUEST FOR TRUTH IN POST MODERN ERA บทคัดย่อ บทความนี้กล่าวถึงปรากฏการณ์การหันมาสนใจศึกษาปรัชญา แนวความคิดแบบตะวันออก(Orientalism)ของคนในโลกตะวันตก อันเนื่องด้วยความรู้สึกคลางแคลงในปรัชญา แนวคิด และความเชื่อของตนเอง ไม่ว่าจะเป็นในเรื่องของ ศาสนา แนวคิดแบบวิทยาศาสตร์ หรือเศรษฐกิจแบบระบบทุนนิยม ซึ่งหลายครั้งนำมาซึ่งความโลภ ความวุ่นวาย การแบ่งแยก แย่งชิงอำนาจ การก่อการร้าย และสงครามในที่สุด โดยสะท้อนผ่านออกมาทางวรรณกรรมและงานภาพยนตร์ แนวคิดแบบตะวันออก ซึ่งส่วนใหญ่แล้วมีจุดกำเนิดในแถบชมพูทวีป ไม่ว่าจะเป็นแนวคิดแบบฮินดู พุทธ เซน เต๋า และอื่นๆ ชาวต่างชาติจำนวนไม่น้อยมักเดินทางมายังประเทศอินเดียเพื่อศึกษาค้นหาความหมายของความสุข และแนวทางการดำเนินชีวิตที่นำไปสู่ความสมดุล ความสงบสุขในจิตใจ แนวคิดในเรื่องการรู้จักรักษาสมดุล การอยู่ร่วมกับธรรมชาติมากกว่าการพยายามที่จะเอาชนะธรรมชาติ ความเชื่อเรื่องกรรม การเดินทางสายกลาง ศาสนาฮินดู พุทธ เซน และเต๋า ล้วนเริ่มได้รับความสนใจมากขึ้นในโลกตะวันตก มีการนำแนวคิด ปฏิบัติ มาปรับใช้ในชีวิตประจำวันในสมัยใหม่จนเกิดเป็นความนิยมที่เห็นกันอยู่มากมาย ไม่ว่าจะเป็นการนั่งสมาธิ การออกกำลังกายแบบโยคะหรือมวยจีน การรักษาแบบแพทย์ทางเลือกในรูปแบบต่างๆ อันเป็นที่น่าเสียดายที่ประเทศไทยซึ่งเป็นเมืองพุทธแท้ๆ คนไทยจำนวนไม่น้อยกลับหันไปสนใจในเรื่องการกราบไหว้บูชา และบนบานสานกล่าวเสียมากกว่า จะสนใจศึกษาศาสนาพุทธ ในแง่ของแก่นแท้ของคำสอนขององค์พระสัมมาสัมพุทธเจ้าอย่างลึกซึ้ง คำสำคัญ: การหาสัจธรรม แนวคิดตะวันออก ศาสนา Abstract This article talks about the growing numbers of the Westerners’ interesting in Oriental philosophies. The phenomena was caused by their doubts in their religious beliefs and basic philosophy in terms of Christianity, Scientific philosophy and Capitalism which evidently brought about greed, chaos, social separation, terrorism and eventually wars. The doubts were presented through literatures and movies. Eastern philosophies originated mostly in south Asia such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Zen, Tao etc. A lot of foreigners have traveled to the area to search for the meaning of happiness and the way to achieve peace of mind. They are interesting in the idea of balancing the way of living; trying to live with nature instead of overcoming it, believing in karma and mediation. They have studied Hinduism, Buddhism, Zen and Tao and adopted these kinds of ideas into their modern way of living till they have become trends like meditation, Yoga and Tai Chi not to mention various kinds of alternative treatments. Thailand as a land of Buddhism, it is such a shame that Thai people who live so close to this valuable ideas, some of them prefer to practice worshiping Buddha images, praying for miracle things and making vows instead of seriously studying Dharma: the core ideas that taught by the greatest Buddha.
