摘要：This article aims to put forward a theoretical/methodological approach for further study of the representation/social imaginary of indigenous peoples in the press in South America from colonial times to the present. To do so, we set out 1) the theoretical background to concepts such as representation, social imaginary, press, discourse and power. 2) We also give some details of our research in the field of mass media representation of indigenous people, focusing on the case of Mapuche community in Chile. 3) Finally, we put forward a methodological approach focused on discourse analysis for the study of otherness/indigenous peoples in the Latin American press.
