摘要:This article attempts to show the complexity of the academic sociology in natural sciences in Spain during the first third of the twentieth century. Around the two most important geographical poles of Spanish science in those years, Madrid and Barcelona, academic disputes acquired a special significance due to several reasons. Both academic spaces rivalled for the leadership in naturalistic works within Spain. However, the weight of political Catalanism gained more and more importance in Barcelona. Even more relevant was the struggle between naturalists, who believed that a harmonious development of science and faith within the natural sciences was possible, and practitioners of a modern and rationalist naturalism alien to any subordination to religious dogmas. We focus on a single case that enable us to reflect some aspects of this macro-historical complexity.
