摘要：In the historiography of the regenerationist movement in Spain triggered by the 1898 crisis scant attention has been paid to the role of individuals who began to promote physical education and sport. This article argues that a generation of 98 also existed in the field of physical education and sport. This has enabled an analysis of the hermeneutic content and of the ideological discourse, which is presented here in chronological order. The conclusions suggest that the first institutions of physical education and sport were forged in this ideological context of regeneration, which contributed to and made use of the underlying narrative. The capitalisation of these institutions reveals an unknown generation of ’98 in physical education and sport whose influence has endured to the present day.
