摘要：This article analyses the characteristics of cosmological thought in colonial Chile considering two sources: the anonymous annotations to treatises on the subject preserved at the Biblioteca Americana of José Toribio Medina (Biblioteca Nacional de Chile), and the only work published on the topic by a local author, friar Sebastián Díaz’s Noticia general de las cosas del mundo por el orden de su colocación . It concludes that until XVIII century, the main features of Renaissance idea of cosmos were accepted in the Colonial intellectual milieu, remarkably both the defense of the geocentric model against copernicanism and the notion of terraqueous globe.
