摘要:Even when contemporary Andean peoples show a strong rejection to surgical interventions due to cultural reasons, in 16 th - and 17 th -century colonial sources we find acounts that describe the formal expression of symbolic surgical interventions (carried out while in trance) that aim to extract from the body those objects and substances that materialize the ailment. This article analyzes some of these mock interventions and compares them with current shamanic therapeutical strategies carried out by Andean healers.
