摘要：This article analyzes the role played by the National Guard in the Province of Cartagena in training and education of citizens between 1832 and 1857. Also, determine the social sectors that made up this institution. It supports the idea that members of this Guard, military service became a form of more direct political intervention, because during that century citizenship is closely associated with participation in the militias and because active citizen status implies the right and duty to belong to it. Similarly, the National Guard became an instrument of sociability and political pedagogy.
