摘要:This paper provides detailed interpretation of results and implications of the findings in a serial study that assessed the barriers hindering adoption of hospital information systems in Nigeria. The discussion of the results elucidates commonalities derived from both methods of inquiry. Common standpoints among participants were that lack of funding support and unfavorable government policy constitutes the major barriers hindering the adoption of hospital information systems in Nigeria. Further, the high cost of full implementation of a hospital information system, inadequate human capital, corruption, and problems associated with poor infrastructure were factors identified as hindrances to the adoption of hospital information systems in Nigeria. Participants were in agreement that over-dependence on imported finished products and end-user resistance were not barriers to the adoption of hospital information systems in Nigerian. Recommendations were that the government needs to establish a robust policy and funding support in Nigeria to facilitate the implementation of e-health initiatives. The Nigerian government also needs to provide stable electricity, basic communication infrastructures, and Internet access to boost private initiatives in the adoption of health information technology across the country.
