标题:A tradução do livro católico O coração do ser humano, de J. E. Gossner (1812), pelo presbiteriano A. Jensen (1914): promoção de um imaginário católico ou sua releitura protestante?
摘要:The paper interprets the book The heart of man , written by J. E. Gossner in 1822 from its Catholic background and compares the result with its translation into Portuguese, created in 1914 by André Jensen, a the Brazilian Presbyterian. Do achieve this, are studied the iconography of its 10 emblems and the iconology of its accompanying texts. We conclude that Jensen believed the contents of the original version generally consistent with his understanding of the Presbyterian tradition. For this presents subtly Calvin as representative of the religio cordis , and omits discreetly nonpresbyterians concepts, as the Catholic “zuvorkommende Gnade” (previnient grace). Moreover, Jensen reorganizes the sequence of the emblems according to the late Protestant´s scheme of the “broad and narrow way”, what, in fact, only reaffirms a central aspect of the book´s original message, it unilateral negative understanding of the world as seductive or stalker. Thus, even the introduction of freedom in place of generosity, in other words, of a distinct Protestant concept, did not contribute to the creation of a more Protestant rereading. Prevails the dichotomist imaginary of a battle between God and the devil in and about the human heart and the focus on a holy death, with no pretense to transform the world.
