摘要：The Kelana dance is a solo male dance in the strong kiprahan style which has a romantic theme and is one of the favourite choices of dance to be performed at a traditional Javanese wedding ceremony. From the 1970s until the 1990s it can be said that the Kelana dance was one of theperformance masterpieces of a marriage ritual. It was almost inevitable that a traditional Javanese wedding ceremony during that period would include a performance of the Kelana dance. The appearance of the Kelana dance in a traditional Javanese wedding ceremony would seem to be morethan simply a form of entertainment. In addition, if we take a closer look and acquire a deeper understanding of the romantic theme presented by the character of Kelana, we will notice values of love, passion, and struggle that should be emulated by all newly married couples. It shows that in order to achieve the real value of love, it is necessary for a married couple to undergo a struggle and make sacrifices so that when they do find true love, they will have the awareness to preserve andmaintain it in all its completeness, by nurturing a household that is always harmonious, prosperous,peaceful, and happy. For this reason, it is deemed an appropriate choice for the Javanese community to continue to preserve the Kelana dance with all the values it contains, as a part of traditionalJavanese culture.Keywords : Kelana dance, function, and Javanese cultural tradition.
