摘要：Mental illness is non-discriminatory disease affecting individuals of all ages, races, genders, and socio-economic backgrounds and is classified in the four following ways: inherited traits, biological factors, life experiences, and brain chemistry (Mayo Clinic, 2010). Research indicates that individuals experiencing trauma and traumatic events are at far greater risk for declining mental function and mental illness. One occupational group experiencing trauma at an increased rate is law enforcement. The largest deterrent to this at-risk population in seeking assistance is the stigma attached to issues of mental health.
