摘要:This paper focuses on the origins of modern Irish nationalism in the 19th century newspaper The Nation. Co-editor Thomas Davis ideologically led the paper while reinvisioning Irish history. In the poetry section of The Nation, Davis constructed a new timeline of Ireland supportive of an inclusive modern nationalism. Though his dreams of Irish home-rule failed to be realized, Davis's ideology and poetry had a lasting effect on Irish nationalists.
