摘要:As a distinct discipline glycomics has gained significantimpact over the past decade. The proteomics and genomicscommunities increasingly perceive glycans as essential elements in physiological and pathological processes ratherthan as decorative elements of lipids and proteins. Glycans are extremely complex and diverse in their structuresand thus it has been necessary to develop a wide rangeof experimental techniques and instrumentation for theirdetection and analysis. With the advancement of techniquesfor the interactive and structural analysis of glycoconjugatestheir essential role in phenomena such as cell adherence, cell—cell interactions, molecular trafficking, biosyntheticquality control, signal transduction and host—pathogenrecognition, became apparent.
