In Mexico, there are few studies about this disease, specifically in the area called South Huasteca in San Luis Potosi. Educational researches have shown that students at the elementary level are great popularizers of community and direct participants to actions that lead to the prevention of this disease. Objective To compare the knowledge related to Chagas disease and its relationship with risk factors in elementary school students in different contexts. Methodology We applied a dichotomous questionnaire to third grade students, the questionnaire was to recuperate the knowledge about Chagas disease and the risk factors for infection Tryponosoma cruzi in two elementary schools located in the municipality of Tamazunchale, one located in an urban area and the other in a rural area. Results A lower score of knowledge of Chagas disease was found in students of the rural area compared to the urban area. Conclusion Disadvantages in relation to knowledge and economic situation were conditions that make an area more vulnerable and there is a higher possibility for children in this area to get sick. It is required a further study of the situation of infection among children in these areas and with this data perform an educational intervention based on the specific characteristics of each area.
