摘要:In this paper we refer to the performance of Italian agri-food export and import focusing on the Emilia-Romagna region, in the period 1999-2012. We analyze the structural and cyclical changes affecting trade balances of the agriculture and the food and beverage industries. The picture that emerges shows a food system characterized by a high degree of internationalization at a European and international level, and an increasing trend of industrial changes that are affecting the relation between agricultural products and food processing industry. Furthermore, the paper reports the strong relevance of intra- industry trade that enlightens the strong integration with the rest of the European agri-food system. The analysis of specialization indexes (Balassa and Lafay) shows the leadership of Emilia-Romagna region in several agri-food sectors. Trade relations are leading the regional food system to quality productions and the so-called “Made in Italy”, in which Emilia-Romagna is actually a national leader.
