摘要:The organic matter of the solid urban waste can generate compost that can be used to contrast the impressive decline of organic matter in agricultural soil experienced in some intensive agricultural areas. Th is paper evaluate the cost of the compost produced in an area nearby Rome and compare it with the willingness to pay of the local farmers. From those estimates, the public incentive needed to make farmers willing to use the compost is recovered. The result is that the whole cost of this policy is reasonable and, therefore, it could be funded by the regional agro-environmental policy. The impact of this policy is twofold: it improves the soil quality and decreases the use of potentially polluting inputs; it permits farmers in the intensive agricultural areas to participate to agro-environmental schemes improving their awareness of environmental problems.
