摘要:For several years and in many advanced economies, legislators and experts’ attention has been focused on methods of land classification, most of all on how to distinguish the rural areas from the urban ones. The study analyses OECD and Eurostat methods of classification and proposes, referring to the Italian context, some integrations and improvements by taking into account the latest EU rules on rural development and data form national census. Through the methodology of cluster analysis, applied to the Italian Region of Campania, and by using data extracted from Population, Industry and Agriculture Census data, the authors could select the groups of towns that better express the rural features of Campania farming sector and the socioeconomic changes that happened between years 1990 and 2000.
