摘要：A iniciação da prática de atividades físicas e esportivas de modo desregrado, com cargas excessivas e desapropriadas para a idade dos praticantes, pode alterar os processos relacionados ao crescimento, desenvolvimento e maturação de crianças e adolescentes. Este artigo tem por objetivo comparar dados bibliográficos referentes aos aspectos maturacionais de atletas de ginástica olímpica do sexo feminino com dados de outras amostras. Esta modalidade foi escolhida em virtude das características apresentadas por suas atletas (baixa estatura e aparência imatura). Os resultados revelaram que existem diferenças, provocadas principalmente pela seleção natural, fatores genéticos e fatores técnicos da modalidade
其他摘要：The disorderly initiation in the practice of physical activity and sport, with excessive and inappropriate training loads for children and adolescents, can result in alterations on their growth, development and maturation. The intent of this article is to compare bibliographic data about the maturational aspects of female olimpic gymnasts (OG) athletes with data of other samples. The sports of OG was chosen because of the characteristics showed by its athletes (short stature and immature appearance). The results showed that the differences exist and they are caused mainly by genetic factors, natural selection and sport technique.
