  • 摘要:The objectives of the study had been to describe the prevalence of arterial hypertension (AH) in a sample of employees of a candy industry and verifying the effects of age and obesity indices on blood pressure (BP). For in such a way the systolic/diastolic BP, the measures of weight (W), height and waist circumference (WC) had been gotten of 348 voluntary employees (243 male and 105 female). Prevalence of AH in the sample was 8.9%, being higher among men (7.2%) than women (1.2%). Among the hypertensive, age (SBP r=0.43) and body mass (DBP r=0.39) showed a positive and significant correlation (r). Between the normotensive (317) and the total sample group (348), age and the various obesity indices (W, BMI, WC) showed significant and positive association with SBP, DBP and mean BP (MBP) (r=0.23 to r=0.47). Statistic analyses showed hypertensive men and women are older and more obese than their normotensive peers. Except for gender and age, which are non modifiable factors, obesity indices strongly associate to habits and risk behavior and are therefore preventable.
