  • 摘要:Even though the benefits of resistance training are explicit, the literature presents gaps regarding precise quantification models for the prescription of work loads. Despite the non linear relation between the number of maximum repetitions and the percentages of 1RM and the evident relation between muscle strength and body mass (BM), these themes are frequently neglected and generate controversy. The aim of this review was to analyze in a critical manner the information available in the literature referring to the way 1RM percentages and BM are used for the prescription of resistance exercises (RE). Considering the revised literature, caution is suggested when assuming that similar percentages of 1RM provide the same training overload. Regarding the use of BM, the method of allometric adjustment seems to be an useful tool in the construction of reference values for the prescription of RE for health and sports.
